First was Porsche. Then Armani, Fendi and Missoni. Now Aston Martin is the latest luxury brand in South Florida condominiums.
The British automaker – known for giving James Bond its car at the Goldfinger Film – announced Wednesday that it will partner with wealthy Argentine developers in a 66-story apartment tower called the Aston Martin residency at the mouth of the Miami River in Downtown Miami. The license agreement marks the company’s first operation in real estate. An Aston Martin team will design the common areas and facilities of the building, including lobbies, fitness centers and a spa.
“It’s not a wanting to position the brand to the place,” said Katia Bassi, vice president of Aston Martin. The company wants to make its mark “in every city where it is important to be, and Miami is one of those,” he said.
In today’s luxury market, Miami developers are more likely to cancel condominium projects than inaugurate them. A strong dollar and a weak global economy have weakened the boom of foreign buyers.
